First published in 1726, Gulliver's Travels is a novel written by the Irish clergyman and writer Jonathan Swift under the pseudonym Lemuel Gulliver. A satire on human nature, the book revolves around the voyages of a surgeon turned captain of several ships, Gulliver.
Swift is known to be adept at both the Horatian and Juvenelian styles of satire, wrote his books anonymously or under pseudonyms such as Lemuel Gulliver, Isaac Bickerstaff, M.B. Drapier.
